Distribución de Lactuca en Sudáfrica / Distribution of Lactuca in South Africa

Ana Isabel Marí León, investigadora de la Unidad de Sanidad Vegetal del CITA y miembro de PROVESOS, ha viajado a Sudáfrica desde el 27/02/ al 10/03/2018 como ayudante del Prof. Dr. Aleš Lebeda, del Departamento de Botánica de la Universidad de Palacký en Olomouc (República Checa). Ana Isabel Marí-León, researcher of the Plant Protection Unit of the CITA and member of PROVESOS, has traveled to South Africa since 27/02 to 03/10/2018 as an assistant to Prof. Dr. Aleš Lebeda, from the Department of Botany of the University of Palacký in Olomouc (Czech Republic).

 El objetivo ha sido reconocer la distribución y la ecogeografía de especies silvestres del género Lactuca y recolectar semillas de las mismas. Visitaron el Herbario Compton, en el Centro de Investigación Kirstenbosch, donde fueron recibidos por el botánico Dr. John Manning con el que se concretó un plan de colaboración con Lactuca, teniendo la oportunidad de ver algunos de los pliegos más antiguos (1861) de este género. Este herbario cuenta con más de 750.000 pliegos siendo el segundo más importante de la República Sudafricana.

The objective of this journey has been to recognize the distribution and ecogeography of wild species of the genus Lactuca and to collect seeds of them. They visited the Compton Herbarium, in the Kirstenbosch Research Center, where they were received by the botanist Dr. John Manning with whom a collaboration plan was established with Lactuca, having the opportunity to see some of the oldest specimens (1861) of this gender. This herbarium has more than 750,000 sheets, being the second most important in the Republic of South Africa.
