Brussels, 5 November 2024 – Europêche, the foremost representative body for the European Union's fishing industry, is pleased to announce the addition of the Estonian Long Distance Fisheries Association (ELDFA) to its membership. The new member was unanimously welcomed by Europêche’s General Assembly, marking a significant step forward in amplifying the collective voice of Europe’s fishers.
Europêche, the leading representative body for the fishing industry in Europe, is delighted to announce the inclusion of the Danish Fishers PO (DFPO) as its newest member. Currently representing over 550 fishing vessels, DFPO significantly contributes to Danish coastal and local communities, supporting 16,000 jobs and generating €1.8 billion in economic activity. During its General Assembly held today in Brussels, Europêche members endorsed and warmly welcomed DFPO as new member, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the voice of European fisheries.

Europêche, the foremost trade body representing the fishing industry in Europe, is strengthening its office and activities in Brussels to champion the sector and ensure its vital contribution to the economy, social fabric and food supply chain is fully recognised by EU policy-makers.
En su Asamblea General celebrada esta semana, Europêche confirmó el mandato de su Presidente, Javier Garat, por otros dos años. El Sr. Garat es Secretario General de CEPESCA, Confederación Española de Pesca.

At its General Assembly held this week, Europêche confirmed the mandate of its President, Javier Garat, for another two years. Mr. Garat is Secretary General of CEPESCA, the Spanish Fishing Confederation.
Los interlocutores sociales europeos para la pesca, Europêche y la Federación Europea de Trabajadores del Transporte (ETF)*, llamaron a todos los Estados miembros de la UE a ratificar con urgencia el Convenio de la OIT ** que proporciona normas mínimas para proteger a los pescadores en todos los aspectos de su trabajo. En una declaración conjunta firmada el 14 de abril en La Haya, Países Bajos y los interlocutores sociales recordaron también las instituciones europeas sobre sus responsabilidades en este proceso. Los interlocutores sociales se han felicitado de la volontad de la Presidencia del Consejo de la UE para trabajar en el acuerdo de los interlocutores sociales (SPA), que ha sido firmado en 2012, pero aún no ha sido presentado ante el Consejo.
Rappel aux États membres de l'UE à ratifier la convention sur le travail dans la pêche C188 de l'OIT
Les partenaires sociaux de la pêche européenne, Europêche et la Fédération européenne des travailleurs des transports (ETF) *, font appel à tous les États membres de l'UE à ratifier de toute urgence la Convention de l'OIT qui fournit des normes minimales de protection des pêcheurs dans tous les aspects de leur travail. Dans une déclaration commune signée le 14 Avril à La Haye, aux Pays-Bas, les partenaires sociaux ont également rappelé les institutions européennes au sujet de leurs responsabilités dans ce processus. Les partenaires sociaux se félicitent de la volonté exprimée par la présidence du Conseil de l'UE à travailler sur l'accord des partenaires sociaux (SPA), qui a été signé en 2012, mais pas encore présenté devant le Conseil.
Europêche rechaza las prohibiciones a la pesca de arrastre de profundidad
Los armadores de la Unión Europea -agrupados en la organización Europêche- han rechazadoen Bruselas las propuestas para prohibir la pesca de arrastre de profundidad, por debajo de los 800 metros, en zonas como el Atlántico noreste. Representantes de Europêche, entre ellos su presidente, el español Javier Garat, se han reunido con la Dirección General de Asuntos Marítimos y Pesca de la Comisión Europea (CE) para manifestarle su oposición a dicha propuesta.

The dialogue focused on securing workable and balanced EU policies that support the sector, ensure access to traditional fishing grounds, strengthen EU seafood sovereignty, and promote fair market competition—all while fostering socio-economic growth for coastal communities.
